When: July 10, 2026 until July 18, 2026
Join Ken for a 8 night adventure in and around the God’s Pocket / Deserters Group Marine Park. This is a week+ paddle in and around the islands northwest of Port Hardy.
We will grab our ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay and drive to Port Hardy where we will camp for the night. We will launch the next morning and make our way to Nolan Point, our first campsite. Then for the next week we will explore the marine parks
Distance in nautical miles or hours: Between 10 and 15 nautical miles per day, depending on conditions
Trip Classification: 3+C. Please note this is a trip for advanced paddlers as we will be experiencing strong currents, winds and swells and will face large tide changes.
Location: Fisherman’s Wharf – Port Hardy Boat Launch
On the Water: at 9:00AM
Paddling and rescue skill expectations: Must be comfortable with exposed crossings, moderate wind and seas and strong current. Must be able to handle multi-day 3+/C conditions. Successful rescue practice (self and assisted) completed within the past 12 months.
What to bring: Camping gear, rain gear, warm clothing, food and cooking equipment. VHF radios, GPS, In Reach, etc. are also useful. Bring first aid supplies if you have them.
Required clothing: Dry suit (preferred) or wet suit. The expectation is that you will be dressed for immersion all of the time we are on the water.
Potential Hazards: Potential for strong winds/currents with swell, open coast, exposed water, crossings, cold water and cooler than expected ambient temperatures.
Leadership style: Paddlers are expected to stay together in a group (within sight and hearing distance) while on the water.

Parking situation: There is paid parking near by @ Stryker Electronics for secure short / long term parking.
