Description: Join Jonas and Heather crossing over to Defence Islands, follow the mainland south, cross over to Gambier Island, follow Gambier Island coast line south east, lunch on Gambier Island, cross to Christie Islet, return to Porteau Cove.

Trip Distance: 18nm, 6 hours paddling, 8 hours including breaks
Launch site and time: Porteau Cove. On the water at 8:00 AM.
Required Clothing: Wet suit or dry suit.
What to bring: Tow rope, spare paddle, lunch, snacks and plenty of water.
Participant responsibility: Participants must be able to paddle 18 nm in potentially challenging conditions. Successful rescue practice (self and assisted) completed within the past 12 months. Group stays together within hearing distance.
Parking: Free parking at Porteau Cove Marine Park. If parking overnight you must obtain free overnight parking pass from kiosk at entrance to campground and place pass on vehicle dashboard.

Potential Hazards: Howe Sound is a dangerous place to paddle, subject to strong winds and high waves. Conditions can change quickly and do not always follow the official forecast. For this long day trip, there is risk for paddler exhaustion and dehydration. The most challenging stretch is typically the crossing from Thornbrough Point to Gambier Island, with strong wind and large waves.
Plan B: This trip is subject to an acceptable weather forecast. If the conditions encountered are unfavourable, we will skip Gambier Island and have lunch on Anvil Island instead.
