Last most I was asking for recommendations for ceiling storage and Steve Best recommended the Harken Hoister system.

I gave a try, and it worked!

    Here’s what I learnt:

    • I decided to go the 16′ 45-145lb option. It worked well but probably 12′ would have been enough
    • The distance from the cable joints to the wall pulley matters a lot. I had plenty of height on my garage but I am limited on how high I can pull it. We could put the wall pulley further but it’s fine as is.
    • Weight matters, as in the minimum. The cleat lock will not release if the load is too light, so make sure you get the right one. We tried it with a carbon fibre boat and it wouldn’t unlock to pull it down, but when I put the tandem boat, it worked like a charm! Ease to bring down, no big deal to pull up.
    • Installation takes time. Mine was installed by my (professional) buddy with my assistance, and it still took four hours. Having such a high ceiling was a factor
