Overnight Howe Sound – 3B

When: July 16, 2026 until July 18, 2026

Join Brian for a slow circumnavigation of Anvil Island with stops on the west shore of Howe Sound and Gambier Island for camps.  Distances are not long but this is open and exposed water with often windy conditions. Total estimated distance is 18 nautical miles (6 nautical miles per day).

Launch Site: Porteau Cove

Potential Hazards: Howe Sound can get very windy during summer months.  Participants should only come on this paddle if they can make headway in 15 knot winds.

Trip Leader: Brian Pegg

Paddle and Rescue Skills: Ability to paddle in 15 knot winds. Successful rescue practice (self and assisted) completed within the past 12 months.

Required Clothing: Immersion gear, camp gear, food. Appropriate outdoor gear for July

Additional Information: Brian has paddled this route and area many times.  This is exposed.  Plan B will involve staying at camp and doing shorter near shore paddles until weather moderates.

Day 1  Launch at Porteau Cove then cross over to camp at Islet View.

Day 2  Paddle the west side of Anvil then cross over to camp at Ramilles on Gambier Island

Day 3 Return to Porteau Cove via Pam Rocks and the south shore of Anvil.

Parking: Park overnight at Porteau Cove.
