Join Ken for a weekend on Gambier Island in cabin #2
Distance in nautical miles 2.4 NM one way. Day tour maybe 6 NM return depending on destination chosen.
Launch Site: Langdale on sand, pebble protected beach. Pass Grace Its. Cross ends of W Bay, Ctr Bay, Long Bay to cabin at Breakwater near Hope Pt. Protected but rocky landing.
Trip Leader: Ken Bigelow
Assistant Leader: Nick Heath
Paddling and rescue skill: successful rescue practice (self and assisted) completed within the past 12 months.
Required clothing: Thermal protective clothing such as dry suit or wet suit mandatory.
Wheel onto ferry at Horseshoe Bay and walk off or drive car onto Langdale ferry, park at Langdale in BCF’s pay lot.
Pre-trip meeting? t.b.a.
Tentative plan is to stay in Cabin #2 at property of Trudie V. Option to sleep in cabin (wood stove for heat) or may choose to sleep outside in tents if brought. Carry gear 200 – 300 m. Cook on propane stove. Utensils, pots on site. Ample good creek water on site – will filter/boil. Saturday possible Mt Artaban hike or possible day paddle Long Bay/ Centre Bay or Keats Island if calm. Possible evening bonfire/gluwein to keep the chill off. No other work planned. Bring a board game. Expect no electricity at cabin. Return time Sunday t.b.a. but likely aim for early p.m. ferry departure.
