For those who are interested in paddling during the winter , Deep Cove kayak centre offers twice a week evening paddle. I did it last winter and will do it this winter as well starting next week.

    What I like about it:

    1. I am taking a boat over there avoiding bringing my own boat, that allows me to try other boats and avoid the hassle of loading/unloading a boat in the evening.

    2. Practicing different skills in the winter or just enjoy a simple workout.

    3. We paddle in the dark with lights -that this is special.

    4. I wash the dry suit/ gear right there in the warm shower

Here is info from Mike Gill at Deep Cove:

This year we will have a Wednesday session and a Thursday session, both from 5:30pm-7pm. The Thursday session is open to everyone and will be at a fairly casual pace of roughly 5km an hour. The Wednesday session will be a tad more fitness-oriented and our goal is to travel at 7km/hr for the 1.5 hours. If you are unsure whether you can sustain 7km over 1.5 hours, you can reach out to me and I’d be happy to let you know what I think as well as develop a training plan in order to eventually achieve that.
I am keeping prices the same as last year and you can drop in for $30 or buy a season pass for $199.
The first night will be Thursday November 6th and it will run every Wednesday and Thursday except December 24 and 25 until the end of February. We’ll finish with a paddle to Bowen again as we did last year!
Please let me know if you have any questions, both season pass and drop-in sessions are available to book online now under “kayak lessons”

For those of us who talk nautical, 5km =2.5nautical miles

therefore be able to sustain a speed of 2.5knots
