Padding in the currents – looking for learning opportunity

    I am looking to improve my skills, looking for opportunities to play in the current. If anyone planning on paddling Surge Narrows, Porlier Pass, Skookumchuck or anywhere else, I love to join.
    I did a white water introductory course with Purple Hays kayaking at Chilliwack few weeks ago running through Chilliwack river. It was a great fun and new experience on very short (7’ and 4” to be exact) boat can spin 360 + another 45 degrees in one sweep. Also they role well. Highly recommended if anyone wants to take your experience to the next level.

    Any feedback would be appreciate. I could even help organizing a group if more experience person available to lead the water activities.

    Hi Kapila, Ken, and Yekaterina – are you guys still planning on going to Surge Narrows in September?  I’d be interested in coming along – experienced whitewater paddler…but have never been to Surge Narrows!  Andrew

    Ken, feel free to email or call me and I can share what I know about the spot. A lot will depend on the skill level of the group, what the goal is, and where you are camping. Surge is a fantastic classroom for learning currents, with many areas to practice skills. Happy to chat. My info is on the member list.

    Thanks for the reply Katya.  I was looking for the window during the  waxing crescent  / waxing Gibbous phases. I can always adjust the dates for say Sept 10-17 to hit a better window.

    Ken, what speeds are you looking at during the trip? It seems like there are a couple of potential windows, but for very different skill levels, and nothing beginner friendly.

    I am planning a fall trip September 12-20 that I am looking to fill with another SKABC trip and Surge Narrows is what I have been thinking about doing.

    If there is interest from the club and I can find a co-leader I will post up the trip.
