We're fully booked for this event. NEW: scroll down to see if a waitlist spot is available. Note that we may be able to add space depending on interest.

This course is designed to offer participants the basic skills and knowledge to make kayaking a safe and enjoyable sport. We cover basic paddle skills as well as wet exits and how to re-enter your boat in the event of a capsize.

On Friday evening we have an in class session and then Saturday and Sunday is the on water portion of the course designed to give you plenty of practical experience on the water. The course ends with a short post-class paddle in or around the Deep Cove area to practice your new paddling skills.

Special Instructions:
A kayak and all recommended safety equipment is required for the Saturday and Sunday sessions on the water.  The kayak must have water tight hatches and bulkheads. A wetsuit or drysuit are also required for the on-water training.   Kayaks and wetsuits/drysuits may be rented at  Deep Cove Canoe and Kayak Center or other retailers such as Ecomarine.   If you have a vehicle with a roof rack you may wish to contact Mountain Equipment Co-op or other rental provider and bring your kayak to the on water training location.
