Simson Provincial Park work/paddle weekend – 2B

When: February 15, 2025 until February 17, 2025

REVISED

This is a part paddling trip and part work trip. Goal is to complete trail clearing with hand tools and temporary trail signage at Simson Provincial Park on South Thormanby Island.

Launch from Coopers Green Regional Park boat launch on Redroofs Road, Halfmoon Bay, Sechelt.

Day 1 Early ferry to Langdale. Launch Time: 10 am. Paddle to Simson Provincial Park on South Thormanby Island. We will travel by kayak (approx. 3 NM) from Coopers Green boat ramp to Farm Bay with possible tour along the way.

Possible small boat use for extra transportation.

Proposed car camp at Porpoise Bay Prov Park group site, Sechelt  instead of Farm Bay.  Latter is a pleasant basic site, without facilities except for a new picnic table that SKABC built in 2024. No fires permitted. A simple shared latrine can be dug and later backfilled.

Porpoise Bay will allow for a pub evening, campfire, pit toilets, tables but will have no water or flush toilets/showers before it officially opens for the season in April. A car camp allows participants to bring more home luxuries to keep toasty warm. Car camping also means more gear can be carried each day to Simson by kayak.

Day 2 is our work day. Paddle out/back. Install signage & route checking – involves walking. Clear trails using hand tools.

Day 3 – Return paddle to Cooper’s Green with some exploring on the return trip.
