I’m hoping to go kayak fishing off the south end of Bowen. Is anyone experienced in these waters? Where is a good place to launch? How’s the water there? If there any sheltered areas that may still be open to fishing?

    Hi Sandra,

People fish for springs year round  from the light at Cape Roger Curtis  to outside Tunstall and Bowen Bays.

A humpback has been doing the same on a flood tide the past year!

    Cheers, Peter

Hello Sandra, Cowan Pt to Cape Roger Curtis is (or used to be) a traditional salmon fishing area. mostly later into the summer. There is no shelter on the S shore but at either end there is some. Avoid windy days! You are well clear of the Rockfish Conservation Areas in the Pasley islands, where no angling is allowed, regardless of the species you are targeting. Tunstall Bay would be your easiest and closest launch site, but Eagle Harbour would work for me. This map might help
