Location: Southern Gulf Islandson the beach

Spend three days in the Gulf Islands developing the skills required to lead a SKABC trip for a day, a weekend or an extended period.

This course is aimed at paddlers who have some kayaking experience and feel that they would like to know more about leading and participating in SKABC trips in accordance with the club’s policy as stated on the web site.

Learning objectives of this course:

  • trip preparation
  • equipment to carry as the leader
  • launch site safety review
  • emergency situation management
  • group integration to establish a cohesive team (group dynamics)
  • campsite environmental management

NOTE:  A mandatory pre-course meeting will be held to discuss logistics and review materials provided to each participant on Tuesday, June 5th . Maureen will provide the address for the meeting at a later date.

Prerequisites: This course has an on-water component.  You must have performed a wet exit, re-entry and assisted rescue within the last year.   In addition you must know how to pack your kayak for camping and be comfortable paddling a loaded boat and setting up your own camp site at the end of the day.
