September Meeting: From Middens to Rock Art – Archeological Sites on our Coastline – Note: Meeting is 2nd Monday in September

When: September 11, 2017 from 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM

Digitally enhanced photograph of rock art on the shore of Indian Arm. The paintings at this location include a humanoid figure and an abstract symbol. They are almost unrecognizable with the naked eye.

Guest Speaker: Brian Pegg is an archaeologist teaching at Kwantlen Polytechnic University.  He has been working in archaeology in British Columbia, Ontario, and the NW Territories since 1990, and has mentored many students on KPU’s Applied Archaeology Field School.

Brian will present about archaeological sites in the lower mainland and the Salish Sea, including information about how kayakers can recognize sites, protocols to follow to avoid causing harm to the sites, and some of the threats to coastal sites in our area.  Much of the indigenous past of our area is unrecognized by the majority of people, and severely threatened because of this.

Come at 7:00 p.m. to socialize — meeting and presentation 7:30 pm

REMINDER: Meeting dates for 2017  are on Mondays and we have a new location. See Map.
