When: June 24, 2017 until June 25, 2017
Summary:
This trip is ideal for those new to kayak camping. We’ll launch from the beach at Deep Cove rental. First targeted rest stop will be at Thwaytes Landing Regional Park (roughly 2 hr paddle from Deep Cove and half way to Granite Falls). We rest for a bit for snack / lunch then continue on to Granite Falls. We’ll stay on the west side of the channel, pass by Silver Falls for some pictures, then pass Bergs’s Landing (Plan B alternate campsite – but we’ll skip this one). Once we reach the north end of Croker Island we’ll cross the channel to Granite Falls and setup camp at Granite Falls. The return trip will mostly follow the same route. Note that no campfires are allowed at this campsite and we’ll stick to that rule!

10:00am (expects to arrive 1.5 hr earlier for packing up kayak)

Possible Hazards:
Strong wind in afternoon generating waves and waves from boat traffic. We mitigate that by heading out early in the morning and stay close to shore.
Requirements:
- Basic paddling strokes
- Can handle at least 2 hours of continuous paddling (at relaxed pace) to reach the rest stop
- Can perform wet exit
- Able to attend a trip planning meeting
