Salmon in the shallow Harrison River This all-day, down-river event starts at 9:00 AM at the put-in on Harrison Lake at Harrison Hot Springs. It requires an initial vehicle shuttle down to the take-out point, Kilby Provincial Park (a 25-minute drive each way), before we start paddling from Harrison Lake.

First Nations Pictographs

We will pause at the Chehalis sacred rock and see the pictographs that have adorned the rock for centuries, if not millennia.  Lunch will be on the beach at the confluence of the Morris and Harrison, and we are planning a special treat to share.  The return of inclement weather to BC should fill the Harrison with enough water to avoid grounding out, real threat some years, but we rarely have to get out of our boats.  In any case, even if it rains that day, we will have a large 16’x16′ tarp to ensure all stay dry at lunch.  Some may opt to take a short round-trip paddle up the Morris slough to Weaver Creek after lunch.

The total trip distance is 17 kilometers, plus 5 for the Morris side trip.  For real salts, that is 9 or 12 nautical miles.  The total paddling time should be between 3 1/2 and 4 1/2 hours.  The paddle is classified B2 but is suitable for a fit beginner in large part because we will be paddling relatively lightly along with the current.  (Pray for continued rain, up until the day of the paddle, to get an even stronger flow going.)  There is a route map with all the details and pictures posted here: http://www.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=8045087

Paddling on the Harrison River

After shuttling some boats and people from the take out back to Harrison Lake to reclaim all of the shuttle vehicles, we’ll finish the day with dinner at the Sasquatch Pub near the takeout.  We should be able to assemble there, starting at 5:00.  Those who need to shuttle back to Harrison lake to pick up cars might arrive at dinner closer to 6:00.

To partake in this ~20km paddle, contact Randy Chatterjee rchat@me.com or Rose Sirois siroisrose@gmail.com before the end of the THURSDAY before that weekend, which is October 22.

REMINDER: We are meeting at Harrison Lake, and will shuttle cars down to Kilby Park from there, between 9:15 and 10:00.  We will launch together at around 10:30.
