THIS TRIP HAS BEEN CANCELLED

When: Sunday, June 24, 2018 overnight at Fair Harbour, followed by 8 nights on the water until return to Fair Harbour on Tuesday, July 3, 2018.

Experience the spectacular rugged north-west Vancouver Island coastline around the Bunsby and Mission groups of islands. Adjacent to the Checleset Bay Ecological Reserve. Expect to see gray whales, bald eagles, sea otters and a variety of other wildlife. Accessible only by boat, the Big Bunsby Marine Park and area offers sheltered anchorages and amazing sea kayaking opportunities. Seeking a wilderness experience, we will find plenty of places to set up camp. We will explore two areas with camping and paddling possibilities among the Bunsby and Mission (Spring Island) group of islands.

This area of the west coast of Vancouver Island can be subject to extreme weather which at any time may alter our plans. A wetsuit or drysuit is required. Extra clothes, food and camping gear should be properly stowed in waterproof containers and/or dry bags in case of a capsize or inclement conditions. Participants should have previous experience doing multi-day trips and paddling in ocean swell.

Paddling skills should include strong forward and bracing strokes, wet exit, self-rescue and rescue-assist.
