Broken Group (2B)

We’ll launch from and return to Secret Beach near Toquart Bay (close to Ucluelet) and paddle out to the inner islands. Depending on the group, we’ll either stay in the mid-islands or move out to Clarke Island. There is lot’s to see and explore.

• We will face two channel crossings, at least, which can get a little bumpy in wind or if there is an offshore swell. We’ll try and keep the trip to a 2B classification but, remember, we are on the Pacific Ocean proper.
• There are fees for the ferry, launching and parking fees at Secret Beach and fees per person per night out in the Broken Group.
• There is no water on the islands so plan on bringing three litres per day per person.
• I will coordinate a pre-trip planning evening for us to meet each other and decide on how we will split the various important tasks up so we all carry part of the trip responsibility. There will be a real focus on safety and food. Food so there is little wastage cooking arrangements that are not overwhelming to individuals. Safety because we are paddling in very cold water and we need to be aware of the special care needed to stay safe.
